About Us
'The Real Mexico Mariachi Band' has been
performing in Sydney since 1998. The director
of the group Victor Valdes has been a professional
musician for 17 years. During 1992 to 1997,
Victor visited Australia each September
to perform at the Mexican Festival playing
not only traditional Latin American Harp
music, but also Mariachi music.
In 1998, Victor relocated to where he is
now based permanently in Sydney. With local
talent from leading Mexican and Latin American
musicians, as well as other professional
musicians from other backgrounds, he put
together Australia's first 'authentic' Mexican
Mariachi Band.
Ever since then, the Band has performed
for numerous celebrities in Sydney and private
functions. The Band also performs at Weddings,
Engagements, Music Festivals, Corporate
Functions, Birthdays and even Baptism parties!
What is a Mariachi?
The 'Mariachi' is originally from the state
of Jalisco in Mexico. It is the most well
known genre of Mexican traditional music.
It consists of trumpets, violins, guitars,
viheulas (Mexican guitar), guitarron (Mexican
bass) and a Mexican harp. The band performs
a contrast of music, ranging from sentimental
love songs to the fun lively groove of 'La
Bamba'.
